When you have nothing to cook and your child is hungry, then use your left-over rice to prepare South Indian tawa rice. It is simple and quick to make.

1 cup rice, oil, 1 tsp mustard seeds, 1 tsp urad dal, a pinch of asafoetida, a string of curry leaves, 2 dry kashmiri red chiles, 1 tsp haldi, salt to taste, 2 tbsp roasted coarsely crushed peanuts, 1 tbsp roasted sesame seeds
1. Heat the oil ion a tawa and add the mustard seeds and urad dal.
2. When the seeds crackle, add the asafoetida, curry leaves and red chillies and sauté on a medium flame for 1 minute.
3. Add the rice, turmeric powder, peanut-sesame powder and salt, mix well
4. Cook on a medium flame for another 3 to 4 minutes, while stirring occasionally.
Serve hot with dip of your child's choice.
