Broken wheat (dalia) is another super food and a treat for toddlers. You can make varieties with broken wheat like porridge, kheer, halwa, khichidi and the list goes on. Broken wheat is a rich source of vitamin B1, B2 and fiber, and your kiddo would love it.

½ cup broken wheat (dalia), ½ cup moong dal, ½ tsp. grated ginger, ½ cup chopped tomatoes,1tsp. ghee, ½ tsp.cumin seeds (jeera), ¼ tsp. turmeric powder, salt to taste, ¼ tsp. asafoetida (hing), water as required.
1. Wash moong dal and broken wheat (dalia) till clear and soak them in water for half an hour.
2. In a pressure cooker, heat ghee.
3. Add cumin seeds and asafoetida, when cumin starts to splutter add broken wheat, moong dal and then add turmeric powder, tomatoes, ginger and sauté in ghee for a few minutes.
4. Add 2 cups water and mix well. Cook for 3 - 4 whistles.
5. This khichdi should be cooked well and remain a little watery, as it tends to get thicker when cooled.
Cook for today’s breakfast and serve your toddler Samba wheat khichdi topped with ghee.
